Norwegian artist, composer and producer Signe Dø (Signe Danielsen Øgrim) explores the intersection of electronic pop, ambient and traditional singer/songwriting; through soaring vocal melodies, ambient textures and field recordings. Her debut album «Gi Meg Månen» was released February 9th on Norwegian indie label Koke Plate.

«Gi Meg Månen» is created out of Signe´s love for both electronic music, traditional songwriting, reverb, noise, and contemporary composition with instruments such as the clarinet, cello, saxophone, guitar and field recordings. Written between 2016 and 2023, it´s a coming of age album, about belonging, yearning for someone, taking clichés seriously, and feeling small yet significant at the same time. It is about restlessness and being situated in a rapidly changing world with a strong desire for something constant.

 

«On the record, I've worked on blending an electronic and electroacoustic tradition with traditional songwriting and pop. I've attempted to push the boundaries in both directions without losing their connection, exploring the possibilities that arise when these two worlds meet. I wanted to mix instruments such as cello, clarinet, voice, and saxophone in their traditional forms with versions sampled and tweaked beyond recognition alongside many layers of electronics and synthetic sounds. I hope the music in the end breathes, even though it sits in the digital realm. The surreal and the natural merge seamlessly, and at times, I lose track of what is what.»

 

"Gi Meg Månen" is an album about eternal change and the passage of time, while things still return. It reflects that being in motion is one of the most constant aspects of life. But above all, it encompasses whatever everyone wants it to, like a mirror.
